Reserve Collection — Hand-Engraved Cigar Ashtray | Steel & Walnut
WHERE THE SMOKE SETTLES.
A hand-engraved cigar ashtray. Polished steel, hand-carved walnut, four rests. Built for the slow burn and the longer conversation.
A cigar deserves more than a glass dish. It deserves a pedestal.
The RACWPUSE ashtray is not an afterthought. It is the centerpiece of the ritual — where the cigar rests between draws, where the ash falls, where the moment slows down. Hand-engraved steel wraps a hand-carved walnut bowl. Four precision-cut rests hold any ring gauge. This is where the smoke settles, and where the conversation begins.
Hand-engraved. One scroll at a time.
The outer band is engraved by hand with a burin — a steel cutting tool that has changed little since the Renaissance. Each scroll, leaf, and vine is cut into polished steel, one stroke at a time. The engraver works under magnification, following a pattern that takes four hours to complete per piece.
The recessed areas catch shadow. The raised surfaces catch light. From across a room, the band reads as a quiet shimmer. Up close, it reveals an entire garden of scrollwork — no two pieces identical.
Heavy. Stable. Considered.
Walnut. Carved from a single block.
The bowl is carved from a single block of North American black walnut — not glued, not laminated. The grain runs continuously from rim to base, creating a natural pattern that looks like a topographic map. Each piece is unique: the grain on your ashtray exists on no other.
We finish it with three coats of food-safe mineral oil, buffed by hand. The oil darkens the grain, brings out the contrast between heartwood and sapwood, and creates a surface that resists ash and moisture. Wipe it clean after each use, and it will develop a richer patina over years.
Where steel meets wood.
The junction between the polished steel band and the walnut bowl is where cheap ashtrays fail. Ours is machined to a 0.1mm tolerance — the steel wraps the wood with no gap, no wobble, no visible adhesive. Run your finger around the rim and you will feel a seamless transition from cold metal to warm wood.
The steel is polished to a mirror finish — not brushed, not matte. It reflects the room, the cigar, the whiskey glass beside it. The walnut is oiled to a soft sheen — not glossy, not raw. Two materials, two temperatures, one object.
Numbers that matter.
Light. Rest. Savor.
Made to outlast the cigars.
— Wipe the walnut bowl with a dry microfiber cloth
— Polish the steel with a soft cloth to restore mirror shine
— Re-oil the walnut once a year with food-safe mineral oil
— Use indoors, on a stable surface
— Don't use abrasive cleaners on the steel or wood
— Don't leave water standing in the bowl (dry after cleaning)
— Don't use it as a coin dish or key tray — it deserves better
— Don't leave it in direct sunlight for long periods (fades the wood)
Measured. Verified.
"A cigar is a pause. The ashtray is where the pause lives."
