RACWPUSE Horseshoe Cigar Ashtray

A RESTING PLACE. FOR A FINE CIGAR.

A hand-hammered horseshoe cigar ashtray. Textured steel, walnut inlays, leather base. Built to hold two cigars, catch every ash, and look like a piece of sculpture while doing it.

The Philosophy

An ashtray is not an afterthought.

Most ashtrays are an afterthought — a cheap glass dish, a ceramic bowl, something you hide when company comes. But a fine cigar deserves a fine resting place. The RACWPUSE horseshoe ashtray is a piece of sculpture that happens to catch ash. Hand-hammered steel walls, walnut inlays that follow the curve, a leather base that protects your desk. Two cigar rests, one central ash well. It is heavy, it is solid, and it is beautiful enough to leave out on the table even when no one is smoking.

01 / Craft

Hand-hammered. One dimple at a time.

The exterior walls are hammered by hand with a small ball-peen hammer against a steel stake. Each strike leaves a teardrop-shaped dimple — 3mm wide, 1mm deep, overlapping in a pattern that flows around the horseshoe curve. The hammer works from the bottom edge upward, each row slightly offset from the one below. It takes four hours to complete one ashtray.

The hammered surface is not decorative. It is structural — the dimples diffuse light, creating a play of shadow and highlight that changes as you move around the piece. It also hides fingerprints, minor scratches, and the wear of daily use. A smooth steel ashtray would show every mark. A hammered one wears its history with dignity.

02 / Engineering

Horseshoe. Two rests. One well.

01 — The Horseshoe
The U-shaped body is cast from 304 stainless steel, then machined to final dimensions. The open end faces the smoker — the two arms of the horseshoe cradle the cigars, the curved back catches the ash. The shape is not arbitrary: it gives you two cigar rests and a deep central well in the most compact footprint possible.
02 — The Rests
Two curved cigar rests are machined into the top edge — one on each arm of the horseshoe. Each rest is 22mm wide with a 10mm radius curve, cradling cigars up to 60 ring gauge. The walnut inlay runs along the inner edge of each rest, protecting the cigar wrapper from contact with bare steel.
03 — The Well
The central ash well is 60mm wide, 40mm deep, with a smooth brushed finish that is easy to wipe clean. The walls slope inward at 5 degrees, so ash slides to the center instead of sticking to the sides. The well is deep enough to hold the ash from two full cigars without overflowing.

03 / Material

Walnut above. Leather below.

Two inlays of solid North American black walnut follow the inner curve of the horseshoe, set flush into the steel top. Each inlay is 8mm thick, sanded through six grits, and finished with three coats of food-safe mineral oil. The walnut protects your cigar wrapper from bare steel and adds a warm, organic counterpoint to the cold hammered metal.

The base is wrapped in full-grain leather, stitched with waxed thread in a saddle stitch pattern. The leather protects your desk from scratches, prevents the ashtray from sliding, and develops a rich patina over time. A felt pad on the very bottom provides an extra layer of protection for fine wood surfaces.

04 / Detail

Where the cigar rests.

Light your cigar. Take a few draws. Rest it in one of the two walnut-lined cradles. The curved steel holds it at a slight angle — foot elevated, cap toward you — so it burns evenly and the ash falls straight into the central well. The hammered walls catch the light. The smoke rises and curls. The leather base sits solid on the desk.

When you are ready, pick it up. Tap the ash into the well. Take another draw. Put it back. The horseshoe shape means you can share — a second cigar rests in the other cradle while you talk, while you drink, while the evening unfolds. No reaching, no balancing, no ash on the table.

When the cigar is done, empty the well into the trash. Wipe the steel with a dry cloth. The walnut inlays need nothing. The leather base needs nothing. The ashtray is ready for the next one.

Numbers that matter.

4h
Hand Hammering
Four hours of hand hammering per piece. Teardrop dimples, 3mm wide, overlapping in a flowing pattern. No two ashtrays have the same hammer texture.
2
Cigar Rests
Two curved walnut-lined rests, one on each arm of the horseshoe. Each fits cigars up to 60 ring gauge. Share a smoke with a friend.
60 RG
Max Ring Gauge
The 22mm wide, 10mm radius rests accommodate cigars up to 60 ring gauge. Most standard cigars fit comfortably.
500g

Solid cast stainless steel body with walnut inlays and leather base. 500 grams — heavy enough to stay put, substantial enough to feel like a piece of sculpture.
05 / Ritual

Light. Rest. Share.

Ashtray with whiskey and cigar
Light
Cut the cap. Toast the foot. Draw until the ember glows orange. The first puff is always the best. Set the cigar in the walnut-lined rest. The hammered steel catches the light. The smoke rises. The evening begins.

Rest
Between draws, the cigar rests in the curved cradle. The walnut inlay protects the wrapper. The steel holds it at the perfect angle. The ash falls straight into the central well. No balancing, no rolling, no mess.

Share
Two rests. Two cigars. Two glasses of whiskey. The horseshoe shape is built for company. Your cigar on one arm, your friend's on the other. The ash well sits between you, deep and clean. Talk. Drink. Smoke. The ashtray holds it all.
Care Guide

Made to outlast the cigars.

Do
— Empty the ash well after each use
— Wipe the steel with a dry microfiber cloth
— Oil the walnut inlays once a year with food-safe mineral oil
— Condition the leather base with leather conditioner every 6 months
— Use a soft brush to clean ash from the hammered texture
Don't
— Don't put it in the dishwasher
— Don't use abrasive cleaners or steel wool
— Don't leave water standing in the ash well
— Don't use it as a candle holder or incense burner
— Don't drop it — the steel is solid but the walnut can crack
